Across the UK, millions of people quietly act as “digital carers”, helping family, friends and neighbours navigate online services. From ordering medication to managing finances, the digital shift initially accelerated by the pandemic has left many struggling to keep up.
Healthwave commissioned Lightbox Film Co. to create a film that shines a light on this hidden network of supporters, and highlights the importance of designing digital systems that are accessible to everyone
Lightbox Film Co. led the full creative process from concept to final delivery, ensuring the campaign delivered both emotional impact and clarity of message.
To achieve this, the film flips the typical perspective by placing a younger person in a future where digital interfaces have become alien and frustrating, making it impossible to keep up with everyday admin. Through intimate performances and grounded storytelling, the film captures the confusion and isolation felt by those who rely on others to complete simple digital tasks, encouraging empathy and understanding.
The film became the centrepiece of Healthwave’s Digital Carers campaign, launched in association with NHS services. It raised awareness of the growing digital divide, sparking conversations about inclusion, accessibility and the unseen care that connects our increasingly digital world.
