Brilliant Corners is a documentary series presented by surfer, writer and geographer Sam Bleakley, celebrating the connection between surfing, culture and community across the globe. For this episode, Sam travelled from his home in Cornwall to Sierra Leone’s coastline to discover how a proud local surf culture is emerging after years of hardship.
Lightbox Film Co. joined Sam for a 10-day shoot, documenting his travels and capturing the vibrancy of Sierra Leone’s landscapes and surf culture. Filming focused on authentic storytelling by combining powerful imagery of the Western Peninsula’s waves with the everyday moments that define life at Bureh Beach.
The episode intentionally highlights sustainable tourism opportunities, with Sam hoping that showcasing Bureh Beach’s racy, consistent point break will attract more travelling surfers in the future. Lightbox also provided motion graphics and post-production support, bringing a cohesive, dynamic visual identity to the episode.
he result is a compelling mix of surf cinematography, documentary storytelling and cultural exploration; a portrait of a community rebuilding through passion, positivity and the ocean.
