To mark the RNLI’s 200th anniversary, Cornwall Museum & Art Gallery launched a special exhibition celebrating the remarkable women who shape and strengthen Cornwall’s RNLI. Lightbox Film Co. was commissioned to create three portraits, each celebrating different women whose dedication, skill and compassion embody the lifesaving spirit of the RNLI.
Lightbox Film Co. crafted three character-led films that highlight both the strength, dedication and selflessness of the RNLI’s female volunteers. The creative aim was for the films to celebrate the women’s contributions, empower viewers, and inspire people to follow in their footsteps.
Across all three films, we used a gentle documentary approach grounded in the women’s stories. By combining personal interviews with observational visuals of station environments and daily routines, the films honour each woman’s voice and present their stories in an authentic way, with pride and emotional resonance.
The films became a central part of the exhibition, helping audiences connect more deeply with the RNLI’s legacy and the extraordinary women who uphold it. They have been praised for being a fantastic series of sensitive films that bring the stories and exhibition to life and inspire visitors to see themselves as part of the RNLI’s future.
