Sustainability

Filmmaking that respects people, place, and planet.

At Lightbox Film Co., sustainability is built into how we think, plan, and produce.
Every project is an opportunity to create meaningful work while reducing impact and contributing positively to the world around us.

Reduce first. Mitigate where needed. Sequester what we can’t avoid.

We follow best-practice guidance from AdGreen, the UK’s leading sustainable production body, integrating their frameworks into every stage of production. This ensures our decisions are informed, accountable, and aligned with industry standards.

Our guiding principles:
reduce, reuse, mitigate, and restore.

How we work sustainably

The film production process can be resource-intensive and have a significant impact on the environment. We have taken a step back to rethink our approach and create a more sustainable video production process.

Energy & Carbon Reduction

Our first priority is always to reduce emissions at source:
  • Remote creative development and pre-production to minimise travel
  • Local crew, cast, and suppliers wherever possible
  • Optimised transport routes and consolidated travel
  • Use of energy-efficient lighting and equipment on set
  • Our London studio is powered by solar energy
  • Our Cornwall studio is powered by renewable energy

Materials & Waste

We work to reduce waste and single-use materials across all productions:
  • Reusable set materials and props
  • Digital call sheets, scripts, and planning documents
  • Responsible catering and recycling systems on location
  • Avoidance of single-use plastics
  • Efficient kit selection to avoid unnecessary transport or power use

On-Set Sustainability

Clear sustainable production guidelines are shared with all crew, including:
  • Waste separation and recycling
  • Efficient power usage policies
  • Reduced water and material consumption
  • Compact crew sizes where appropriate
  • Sustainability briefing at the start of each shoot

Measuring our impact

We use the AdGreen Carbon Calculator to measure the footprint of each production. This allows us to:
  • Quantify carbon impact
  • Identify reduction opportunities early
  • Track improvements over time
  • Report transparently to clients
When full reduction isn’t possible, we mitigate the residual carbon, and any remaining unavoidable emissions are sequestered through tree planting in partnership with local CIC, Plant One. For every film we produce, we plant trees and clients are invited to join us or match planting if they want to extend their environmental impact.

Why it matters

Sustainable production protects the places that make our work possible; from Cornwall’s landscapes to London’s creative communities.
It also strengthens brands — audiences increasingly expect environmental responsibility from the organisations they support.
Working responsibly is simply part of producing work with integrity.

Our commitments

  • AdGreen-aligned production methods for transparency and accountability
  • Carbon measurement using the AdGreen Carbon Calculator
  • Local-first resourcing, reducing travel and supporting community economies
  • Continuous improvement, adopting new low-impact methods as standards evolve
  • Regeneration, through tree planting that restores native woodland in Cornwall
  • Open communication with clients about environmental choices and impact
